I love using the mix for rats described in this section. I made a big batch of it on November 26th for roughly $16-18 and I still have 1/4 of the batch to go. So It's lasted me 2 months so far! The only problem I have is that my rats like to eat their favorites and then they scatter or bury the rest in their bedding.
Is it ok, in these instances, to not give them new food in a way to force them to eat what they've buried? They don't bury it in the same side of the cage they poop in so I don't have to worry about it becoming gross.

Absolutely! I have to do that with my Hamster. He doesn't get his bowl refilled until he eats at least most of the food (I try to not let it get completely empty of course). Otherwise like you said, he will pick out his favorites and leave the rest (usually them millet) behind.
