I have a 1.2 group of african soft furred rats. Their names are Sine (female), Cosine (female), and Tangent (male). My husband named them. They had their first litter on 12/25. The mother is Sine (and that's her butt in the picture , as she is the only one actively nursing them. Cosine and Tangent just sit on them like mother hens to keep them warm. They are about a week and a half old now but this picture was taken when they were only a few days old. And yes, they now have a more comfy nest. I gave them tissue to make a better nest. I plan on keeping two females back as future breeders.

LOVE the names! Do you have any recent pics of them? Are these feeders or pets? I would love to have a pet rat some day - legal or not! Right now my hands are full though. I need to get some pictures of my new mice - I jsut got 2 new little females: Egg and Omelet. haha

Katt, they are feeders. I would love for the breeders to be like pets, but they are so aggressive. I do have updated pictures and they are now 5 weeks old. Cosine also had a litter on 1/10. Babies from the first litter. Now 5 weeks old. I'd name them but I can't tell them apart! Two of the babies from the above picture. A few more from the same litter and you can see one or two of the babies from Cosine's litter.

They really are cute. ASF's aren't as domesticated because most are breed as feeders. I have actually been taking to someone on another forum who just took in about 10 of them and they are hand tame, but they aren't really healthy and she isn't sure if that will can't once they have more strength.
I have also been in contact with a woman who breeds ASF's and I am looking at doing a sale or trade with her for a ASF colony.

They are adorable! It's a shame they are so aggressive - how do you go about handling them for cage cleaning and such?

Thick leather gloves maybe? It's want I used for aggressive dwarfies when I would bring in fresh blood lines.

Cosine is looking plump again. I think she might drop a litter soon. I'm keeping the red-eyed cream-colored female in the 3rd picture. She needs a name though. Any suggestions?

What about Integra? (as in Integral) It goes along with the math theme you have going...
